Advocates for Children

Responsive website redesign for a nonprofit that pairs volunteers with at-risk youth in foster care. The redesign of a  live WordPress site focused simplifying the information architecture, conveying the passion behind the organization, and promoting donation and volunteer rates.

Personas

We identified two categories of users that we wanted to target for the site, donors and volunteers. We created two types for each user including current and potential users and came up with four personas to cover a variety of user goals and core needs.

Information Architecture

The information architecture originally included over main 75 pages, many of which did not have updated content and were difficult to locate.

The new site includes approximately 10 main pages with up to three supporting pages per category. These pages are optimized to include relevant and updated content as well as infographics and clearer organization and links between pages.

Original Site 75+ pages

Flex Footer

The need for more connectivity between pages of the site led me to the idea of a flex footer.

The section to the left will change based on the page it is displayed on. The donation pages will have a section that links to the volunteer page. The volunteer page will link to the donation page. The flex section of the footer can be updated on the homepage and other pages to link to the pages that CASA deems important, such as events, news or updates.

We plan on having this flex section animated or otherwise highlighted to draw attention to it as users scroll to the bottom of the page.
